John Vincent, with a twinkle in his eye, suggested a kiss in exchange for not being thrown out. Little did she know, this playful proposal would mark the beginning of a beautiful journey.
"It sounds so bad now, in retrospect," Katie shares with a laugh. "But I never thought I'd see him again."
A Persuasive Suitor
John, it seems, was determined to make an impression. Despite Katie's initial belief that it was a joke, he pursued her for over a year and a half before she agreed to a date. Their relationship blossomed, and they married in a grand ceremony in Cheshire in 1999. Since then, they've supported each other through Katie's successful TV presenting career and John's entrepreneurial ventures, co-founding the popular healthy fast-food chain, LEON.
"He's come a long way from his first meal—a jar of Chicken Tonight!" Katie jokes.
Proms and Royals
For Katie, hosting the BBC Proms has been a dream come true, especially as a classical music enthusiast and violinist. Her work has brought her close to the Royal Family, with whom she's had the privilege of interacting and sharing her passion for music. The King, formerly the Prince of Wales, has been a particular highlight, with Katie noting his extensive knowledge of classical music.
"It's a unique access that journalists are lucky to have—a glimpse behind the curtain," she reflects.
A Musical Legacy
Growing up in a musical household, Katie's love for music was nurtured by her parents. Her father introduced her to a diverse range of international music, while her mother encouraged her to play the piano. Sadly, Katie's mother passed away from early-onset dementia at 61, an experience that has profoundly shaped her perspective on life.
"It made me more determined to make the most of every moment," Katie shares. "I want to enjoy the wonderful things in life and not waste a second."
